En 2018, la rencontre inopinée du photographe Patrick Leclerc fut fondatrice. De retour de Namibie, le reporter-voyageur avait réalisé une série de portraits de l’ethnie des Himbas, peuple du désert de Kaokoveld.
L’émotion directe procurée par ses clichés a poussé Jérôme Servant à porter ces regards si forts sur des toiles. Le peintre a souhaité réveler cette émotion pure à travers un médium primitif : le pastel sec.
Des pigments, de l’eau, des mains. Le grain si particulier du pastel met en lumière les regards, à la manière d’Edgar Degas, sans couleur ajoutée. L’objectif étant de peindre l’âme.
Himbas Looks
In 2018, the unexpected meeting of photographer Patrick Leclerc was founding. Returning from Namibia, the travel reporter produced a series of portraits of the Himba ethnic group, people of the Kaokoveld desert.
The direct emotion provided by his photos pushed Jérôme Servant to bring these strong looks to canvas. The painter wanted to reveal this pure emotion through a primitive medium: dry pastel.
Pigments, water, hands. The particular grain of the pastel highlights the eyes, in the style of Edgar Degas, without added color. The objective is to paint the soul.
